At Levels Dance School there is a class for every child. You can choose from ballet, tap or modern dance. Each one uses a different type of music and teaches new skills and technique but all of them compliment the others by challenging our minds and bodies and keeping us fit and healthy. Take a look at the descriptions below to find out more about each style.
Ballet

Ballet is suitable for everyone and it is never too late to start. By using the Royal Academy of Dance training syllabus (RAD), students can work towards exams starting at Pre-Primary up to Grade 8. We now offer the option of Vocational classes for students aged 10+ who wish to attend lessons 2 or 3 times a week and work towards Intermediate and Advanced examinations. Ballet helps to improve posture and balance, builds strength, precise technique and musicality. The pre-school classes involve dancing through imaginative stories and adventures whilst learning to listen, working on basic co-ordination and having fun. The classes for school age chidlren are still lots of fun and gradually introduce new steps and technique through games and by using props and working in groups. Ballet is surprisingly energetic and can also help to calm children who have endless energy, it can improve behaviour, concentration and fitness levels.
Tap

Tap classes are for children aged 5+ and are based around the ISTD training syllabus, in the future they will become graded classes to enable children to progress through each level as they do with ballet. Tap is noisy, fun and rhythmical and the children like to concentrate on each new step to make it sound right. It involves isolating the legs and feet to create certain sounds and putting it altogether into fun dances, there is always the chance for children to add their ideas and movements too. A class that works well added onto a ballet class to keep the brain working and spend your energy!
Modern

Modern Dance was introduced to Levels Dance School in January 2013 for children aged 8+ as a class which compliments ballet training and improves strength, flexibility and freedom of movement. The first set of ISTD modern students took exams at Grade 3 and 4 in July 2015, we are hoping for excellent results! This is an interesting and fun class for children who like to understand more about movement styles, strengthening and limbering and how to use the space by combining travelling steps, leaps and turns with different rhythms.
Private Tuition
Kim is available on Saturday afternoons and certain times during the week for Private Lessons should they be required. These need to be arranged directly through Kim and fees will be discussed at the time of booking. Private
lessons can be for individuals or small groups and will be beneficial in the run up to exams, in order to catch up on missed classes or simply to improve technique and performance in general.
